Napier Ribbon Policy -Red & Blue

Red Ribbons
The owner of any dog that is reactive will be ask for the dog to wear a RED ribbon

Blue Ribbons
The owner of any dog thats nervous and/or requires a bit more space will have the option for the dog to wear a BLUE ribbon

The ribbon needs to be large enough to be seen from reasonable distance and be worn when ever they are on club grounds. For dogs with a short coat the ribbon can be worn on the collar but for fluffier dogs the ribbon should be attached to the lead 5-10 cm up from the collar.

The club will carry a small stock of ribbons.

The aim of the ribbon policy is to

A) Protect other dogs from reactive or aggressive dogs by making sure all owners are aware of their surroundings

B) Minimise people/dogs getting too close to reactive dogs and undoing owners hard work

C) Ensuring that all nervous and uncertain dogs feel safe our grounds by having their need for space respected

D) Educate and make all owners aware of the surrounding dogs and what needs they might have.

Any owner who, despite repeated requests, refuses to put a red ribbon on their dog, will be questioned by the trainer as to the reasons for the refusal. This will be taken to the committee for further appropriate action

Napier Dog Training Club reserves the right to ban from the grounds or require to have muzzled at all times ANY dog which makes repeated attacks on other dogs.

Any dog that bites a person will be immediately brought to the attention of the trainer who will investigate the circumstances of the event and make recommendations to the committee

The ribbon policy is not a new concept for the Napier club but with our club growing in size and more and more dogs needing a bit more space we felt it was a good time to reinstate it.

Ribbons shouldn't be worn in shame and you'll find a lot of our club trainers will have ribbons on their own dogs
